Story
When: 30th June 2012
What: As a team, we will be attempting to climb the three highest peaks in Scotland, England and Wales (Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon). The numbers are intimidating- 26 miles of walking, 3 kilometres of ascent, 470 miles of driving, all in twenty four hours. Oh, and 10 or so questionably fit St John Ambulance members. Who collectively spend far too much time eating chocolate and crisps in ambulances.....
Why: We are raising money for St John Ambulance, Help for Heroes, and Mountain Rescue services throughout England & Wales, and I have chosen to raise money for Mountain Rescue.
The Charity: As someone who spends far too much of my time volunteering, I can understand how hard it is struggling to raise enough money to continue to do life saving work. The men and women of Mountain Rescue England & Wales receive no government funding, all have full time jobs, and pay almost all their own expenses. Yet they are still on call 24/7, 365 days a year when people are in desperate need. They respond to a huge variety of calls, from lost or ill people in the hills across the country, to missing people in more urban environments.
Any donation, regardless of how small, would be greatly appreciated. If you do not feel you can spare any money, please cross your fingers for us over the weekend, and maybe spare a little prayer for some sunshine!! Thank you for taking the time to read this!!
