What is the Magic Wand Appeal about?
Those of you who have had to spend time in the children’s unit at Winchester’s RHCH will know that whilst the care you receive is second to none, the facilities are now tired and out of date. There are plans to modernise the unit, with the principle aim of giving children and their family the best experience possible in hospital.. A centralised reception and communication area, better facilities for families and more day case surgery and treatment rooms are some of the planned improvements. We are also keen to ensure that our teenage patients are accommodated in an appropriate environment.
We are delighted to say that we have raised sufficient funds to build the new reception area, and work begins at the end of April 2012. To take the project to the next stage we are aiming to raise £50,000 through Just Giving this year.
Our main event in the coming months is The Magic Wand Tandem Challenge - an attempt to cycle non stop from Land's End to John O'Groats on a tandem. The record has not been broken since 1966 and one of our paediatric consultants, Ian Rodd, is joining local cycling legend Dominic Irvine to mount a challenge. It takes place at the end of June 2012 so please do support them. Their facebook page is The Magic Wand Tandem Challenge.
If you would like to organise an event to help us reach our target this year, or undertake a sponsored event please contact the fundraising office at RHCH by phoning 01962 825377 or email nikki.oliver@hhft.nhs.uk.
