We provide expert care and support to young people with cancer

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Our Event: We are doing the ThunderWalk challenge, we are a team of four people with a support crew and reserves and we must make our way around a 54 mile route within 24 hours over the breath taking Brecon Beacons. This event takes place on the 12/13 of May. The challenge will be tough and will require lots of commitment from team members and helpers alike.

Why we are doing it: We are raising money for Teenage Cancer Trust because a very good friend and colleague of ours was diagnosed with Leukaemia in 2010, he was placed at the Cardiff unit for Teenage Cancer patients where they work hard to help teenagers and young adults feel comfortable in their surroundings while fighting cancer. Having visited the Unit I can see the amazing work that goes on and the brilliant support that the staff give to the patients and their friends and family. Each unit depends on our generosity to ensure that they can provide the best care and support for these families. Please help us raise our target of £3,000 by May 2012

Your money will help:

  • 'Rapid access to cancer services offering accurate diagnosis and a competent assessment
  • Clear and accurate information
  • Evidence based treatment with access to clinical trials
  • The best chance of survival with the least possible physical cost
  • A high standard of age specific facilities
  • Access to staff that understand them and their needs
  • Peer support
  • Psychological, social, educational, and employment support
  • The best treatment as close to home as possible

Teenage Cancer Trust aims to provide teenagers and young adults these essential services. We estimate that with the units we currently have around the UK, only half of the teenagers diagnosed with cancer have access to this dedicated, specialist support. So we need to do more. Our aim is to build enough units so that, by 2012, every single teenager will be treated on one'. (www.teenagecancertrust.com 12/11/11)
