As some of you may know the Brook Pub has attended and hosted many charity events to raise money for the charity Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY).
We all first became aware of the charity when we tragically lost our much loved son, brother, cousin and good friend Alex on the 29th September 2005. He was a month away from his 21st birthday, fit, healthy and happy. The cause of his death was an unexplained heart condition, referred to as Sudden Death Syndrome.
Sudden Death Syndrome (SDS) is an umbrella term used for the many different causes of cardiac arrest in young people and CRY was founded in 1995 to raise awareness of conditions that can lead to SDS. Their aim is to work with cardiologists and family doctors to promote and protect the cardiac health of our young, aiming to establish good practice and screening facilities which are devoted to significantly reduce the frequency of young sudden cardiac death throughout the UK.
This year on 26th of July CRY families and supporters will get together and commemorate or support young people by walking a 5 mile route of London which includes at least 12 of London’s most famous landmarks, chosen to represent the deaths of 12 young people who die each week in the UK from undiagnosed cardiac conditions.
We will be walking as a team, in memory of Alex, and we ask for any generous donations/sponsors to help us raise money for this wonderful charity.
