Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page for GameBlast15.

I know I can waffle on, but please do have a read below about what SpecialEffect is, how I met some of the team, and why I'm fundraising for them...

So what does SpecialEffect do and why is it important? Well, they help people with disabilities to play video games. By using technology ranging from modified games controllers to eye-control, they’re finding ways for people to play to the very best of their abilities. But they’re not just doing it for fun. By levelling the playing field, they’re bringing families and friends together and having a massively positive impact on inclusion, confidence and rehabilitation. You can find out more at www.specialeffect.org.uk but also, watch this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bd2BsLecH9o

I first heard about SpecialEffect when I met Nick Streeter and Gavin Tan at a Sonic convention. Here they were running the PC version of Sonic Racing Transformed (a game I'd designed) through special eye tracking software to demonstrate how it'd had been tailored for gamers with disabilities. I was absolutely blown away by how great it was and how awesome it must be for the folks who get their game on thanks to SpecialEffect - I then watched a few of the videos on their website, and was deeply moved by the whole thing.

So what is GameBlast? It's a 24 hour gaming marathon to raise money for SpecialEffect. You can read more about it here: http://www.specialeffect.org.uk/gameblast-about

My live stream will be here: http://www.twitch.tv/ThatThereTim

As a *special bonus*, if you donate £10 and comment that its for Destiny... a game I utterly, utterly loathe (genuinely the most disappointing game of the last two decades, let alone last year)... then I'll be forced to play it for an hour (with minimal swearing at it). This will be an epic challenge for me, and make that 24hrs of gaming even more tough... but it's all worth it. :)

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity. So it’s the most efficient way to donate – saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

You can also donate via text by sending TTIM55 followed by £1, £2, £3, £4, £5 or £10 to 70070 (e.g. TTIM55 £5 to donate a fiver)

About me:

I'm a veteran video game developer with 14 years in industry and about 20 projects under my belt. I've always been an avid gamer, and it all started at the ripe old age of 4 when I got a Binatone TV Master Mk.4 and spent thousands of hours playing "Tennis" (a.k.a. Pong) and "Football" (a.k.a. Pong rotated 90 degrees)... since then it's been 29 years and around 3,200 games played. I've been very lucky to work with some of the best people in the world, on the biggest franchises in the world, such as Star Wars, The Elder Scrolls, Sonic the Hedgehog (and a ton of SEGA franchises), Forza, Fable, Wallace and Gromit, Moshi Monsters, and now: LEGO!

Many people think I'm powered by bacon and cake (they're correct).
