Story
Thanks for visiting our team fundraising page.
TeamGarby has joined together with Bedale AFC and Heck Food to raise money for Prostate Cancer UK in memory of a dear friend, Steve "Garby" Garbett, who sadly passed away 7th September 2014. It was one of his wishes to help other prostate cancer sufferers, so a group of family and friends teamed up to make his wish come true.
In 2015, with little or no training and no previous experience, TeamGarby completed the Prostate Cancer - London to Amsterdam cycle challenge raising £42,140. In June 2016, they raised £19,879 on the Yorkshire to Amsterdam challenge and then again in 2017 a further £21,151 was added. In addition to the cycle rides, there have been many other fundraising events, culminating in two gala dinners at the Queens Hotel in Leeds, organised by Simon Grayson and his partner. Over 400 people attended each black tie event. The headline act for the first gala was the Kaiser Chiefs, who kindly donated their time, free of charge.
Bedale AFC, sponsored by Heck Food, made national and international headlines on the radio, television, newspapers and websites in 2017 with their unique sausage playing kit and matching cycle jerseys worn on the second cycle ride. The new Bedale AFC hot dog kit was launched live on BBC Look North on 23rd July. Since then, the worldwide interest has been staggering. The hot dog kit, bearing the Prostate Cancer UK logo, is available from www.historicfootballshirts.co.uk with 25% of every sale going to Prostate Cancer UK via TeamGarby.
Such has been the support for TeamGarby along with the new hot dog kit and Heck Foods involvement, the TeamGarby fundraising target has been increased to £250,000.
Together with endorsements from famous people in the sporting and entertainment world, we are confident the quarter of a million-pound target is achievable!
Thanks TeamGarby!
