Story
2,000 miles in 48 hours non- stop.
Alongside 140 other crews, we will be taking on the gruelling Round Britain Reliability Run on its 50th anniversary to raise enough money to fund the life of a Guide Dog. The dog will transform the life of someone blind or partially sighted. If we reach our objective, the Guide Dogs charity have promised that the guide dog puppy will be named after our car of choice: "Triumph"!
We will be driving 2,000 miles from the Knebworth north of London, to John O Groats, through Wales to Lands End back via the south of England and London back to the start. We depart on Friday 7th October at 6pm with the aim to complete by 6pm on Sunday 9th October.
The event was first run in 1966 as a proving run for the Standard Triumph factory and is unchanged in its objective to drive around the UK, covering nearly 2000 miles visiting pre-arranged control stops in 48 hours. The gruelling enduro will test both the 1964 Triumph GTR4 Dove and its two drivers, father and son team Gary and Wayne Scott on their driving endurance, car preparation, navigation and their ability to sleep in a loud classic sports car!
Both have completed Round Britain Reliability Runs in the past this being Gary's third and Wayne's fifth all for equally good charitable causes. Since the event, which is run every 2 years, began raising money for charity in 1991, over £550,000 has been raised for various good causes.
The car is a rare GT version of Triumphs iconic TR4 model and is one of only 53 built and 17 left on the road today, rebuilt by Gary and owned since 1985 the car last completed the event in 2008 having previously completed in 1976.
