Story

Team BlackLine are taking on the epic Everest in the Alps challenge  to support children living with a brain tumour

The concept of Everest in the Alps is an inspiring one. We all have an Everest to climb.

Why people take on challenges will vary, however, we all share one thing in common; we all want to make a difference.

We are Team BlackLine - Phil Spencer, Mark Lindblom, Alex Lewis, Nick Sowerbutts and Rupert MacInnes - a group of five close friends as well as being a group of fathers, with young children.

When we found out about Toby’s story, and what his father & friends have done in order to raise funds and awareness of the Brain Tumour Charity, this spurred us to join this challenge in order to make a difference for both The Brain Tumour Charity and The Anaphylaxis Campaign. This is the Just Giving page for The Brain Tumour Charity.

The Everest in the Alp is a daunting undertaking physically & mentally.

We have decided we are going to climb this mountain for Toby and all the other children who suffer from inoperable brain tumours or are affected by anaphylaxis and other severe allergies.

We are taking on this epic challenge in the mountains while raising critical funds for research into brain tumours which affects over 26,000 children globally every year. There is no cure. Yet just 2% of cancer research funding goes to this area and very little is known about the causes, while treatment remains inadequate.

The challenge...

We will be climbing uphill the height of Mount Everest on ski-touring skis (using skins and crampons for grip) to reach 8,848 vertical metres (5.5 miles) in 4 days in the Alps. It takes 5-6 months to train for this event – it is 4 days of solid 10-14 hours climbing per day, staying in mountain huts at high altitude along the route, burning 10,000 calories per day (the equivalent in calorie burn as running 3 back-to-back marathons per day).

A CURE CANNOT WAIT-  HELP US REACH THE SUMMIT AND SECURE THE FUNDING THAT THE EVEREST CENTRE  AND THE ANAPHYLAXIS CAMPAIGN NEEDS.

Thank you for your support

Mark, Phil, Rupert, Alex, and Nick

PS. Every single penny we raise will go directly to the work of the charities as we are generously supported by Therese Tucker and BlackLine www.blackline.com
