Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In June '16 I received a text message from my best friend which completely floored me....her 11 yr old daughter Jemma had been diagnosed with bone cancer!!
What?! How?!.... But she was out competing a couple of weeks before. None of it made any sense!
In the months that followed Jemma has been through unimaginable pain, had her trust pushed to the brink and endured gruelling surgery and chemo. Each time I see her she manages to smile...how does she do that?!
As a friend I have felt completely useless, not being able to fix it, living too far away to help regularly and desperate to help make things better....then I heard about The Wobbleberry Challenge.
The challenge is to complete a BE80 in the autumn of 2017 (that's Dressage, show jumping and cross country...all in one day!)
I haven't left the ground on a horse for approximately 12 years and even as a child/teenager was never particularly great at it as I lacked both talent and bravery. The added pressure of not actually having my own horse anymore only adds to my challenge as I will need to borrow and build a relationship with an unfamiliar horse.
This challenge is me being able to 'do my bit' to help support Jemma, her family and any others who are in similar situations. Please don't underestimate how utterly petrifying this for me, I feel nauseous everytime I think about it...and then I remember why I am doing it, pull myself together and think...kick on!
All monies raised will go to The Willberry Wonder Pony Charity set up by the inspirational young Eventer Hannah Francis, who sadly lost her own battle with Osteosarcoma in August 2016 aged 18. Willberry supports research into Osteosarcoma and helps grant horsey wishes to young people suffering with long-term or life limiting conditions.
