Story
Hello!
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page. We are raising money for the Wessex Multiple Sclerosis Centre,UK by running the Melbourne Marathon, Australia on 9 October 2011. We are running in memory of Tim Gye (Suzie's Father).
In June 2011 Tim passed away. Tim was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) in the mid 1990's and from 2000 used Wessex MS Therapy. Tim found the services that the Wessex MS Therapy Centre offered invaluable. Tim regularly accessed physiotherapy at the Centre and found opportunity to meet with other people who had MS a huge source of support.
MS is a condition of the central nervous system. At present it remains incurable. People with MS have differing degrees of mobility and many are wheelchair users. The progress of the disease frequently leads to severely reduced independence and employment prospects, with consequent financial hardship.
The Wessex MS Therapy Centre is an individual charity and relies on the dedicated volunteers who give freely of their time to help people with MS and employs only a few paid staff.
The Wessex MS therapy offers Physiotherapy, Reflexology, Counselling,Yoga and Pilates. Alongside they provide Oxygen Therapy which is believed to help repair any tissue injury which is vital in the transport of oxygen around the body. Currently they are researching the possibility a Specialist MS Nurse to hold chiropody surgeries in the centre.
