Story
Like many people I have become more and more concerned about the plight of refugees. This is the humanitarian crisis of our times. I am doing what I can to donate necessary goods, money and raise awareness - as I know many other people are doing. As well as that, I am keen to come together with other poets to do something special as a poet. Poetry, like all the arts, has a role to play not just raising money and awareness, but in reconnecting people across the world as fellow human beings.
This event is a marathon poetry reading session. 60 poets are being sponsored to read poetry from 12 midday to 10pm at night. Some of the poets themselves have had the experience of having to leave their homes, others are keen to show support and concern. The event will be a celebration of unity, diversity and poetry as well as a serious fund-raising event.
All the money will go to a charity which has an international reputation for their work supporting refugees.
The event will take place on Saturday December 5th 2015 12pm- 10pm at Vout-O-Reenees, The Crypt, 30 Prescot Street, E1 8BB. It is open to the public to listen and support the poets. Entry is free but there will be donation buckets.
Or please consider sponsoring me or any of the poets who are taking part in this challenge. It is a great cause and every penny is needed. Please don't worry if you can only sponsor with a tiny amount. It all counts. Many thanks.
Susie
