Tim's Great North Run, in memory of SuperGran: Team Sage #BeattheCEO

I have now been cigarette free for two days, so this run has been worthwhile for my health in more ways than one!
Just completed a 5k park run, up until now I have been running on a treadmill, which was an awful lot easier than pavement!
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Four years ago my Grandmother was taken from us, after a short battle with cancer.
It wasn't her first.
She was recovering from an operation to remove part of her lung which had developed cancer when we discovered she also had colonic cancer, and it had spread; there was nothing we could do except make her last days as comfortable as possible.
She was the matriarchal head of our family, and she was universally admired, respected and loved (Except by my Dad, she was his mother in law after all!) and is still missed to this day, even by our children who barely knew her but still call her "SuperGran"
I grew up in a family pub, where she was known throughout the community as a lovely woman, who anybody could turn to for honest and compassionate advice, and at her funeral I saw people I have known all my life in sorrow, but also in celebration of her life, because she was full of life and full of love for her family and everyone else she cared about.
During her life she worked to raise money for charity, specifically charities that supported cancer research and support of cancer sufferers and upon her passing I made a vow to myself I would do the same in her memory, and when Sage provided me the opportunity to take part in the Great North Run I jumped at the chance.
I've never taken part in a half marathon before, although I did run in the Great North 5k two years ago to raise funds to help my little cousin Harvey Young who suffers from Spastic Diplegia Cerebral Palsy so this is an extremely personal challenge for me!
