Update: We did it! On Sunday 20th, the crew of Corinne, John, Phil and I completed the course in 4hr 40mins 59secs. It was a great day for it with sunny blue skies and almost no wind. We all struggled at different points, but kept going well. At the finish we could all walk, main injuries were blisters and sore bums, though Corinne did row with a very sore wrist with 15km still to go. We were all really pleased to finish well and within the five hour target we had set ourselves. Thanks to everyone for their support.
On 20th September 2009, Corinne, John, Phil and I will be rowing a quad sculling boat along the 31 miles of canal between Lincoln and Boston in a race called the Boston Marathon. The aim is to finish with as few blisters as possible and to be able to walk afterwards! The trip involves portaging the boat over a lock. We are supporting Cancercare for personal reasons. I was impressed by the support they gave my father during his fight with cancer and the assistance they gave my Mum. Corinne is fighting her own personal battle and is thankful for the great treatment and support they have given her over the years. John's wife Yvonne has had her own personal battle and appreciates the efforts made by Cancercare. They are a dedicated bunch of people, many of whom are volunteers. Cancercare provide services ranging from counselling to massage for patients and their families. Services that are invaluable in helping people cope through traumatic times. Their efforts are funded purely by donations and fundraising. Feel free to donate as much as you can afford to help their work.
