Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I have recently been diagnosed with a rare eye disease. It is a chronic, auto-immune, potentially blinding form of posterior uveitis for which there is currently no cure. The disease is called "Birdshot Chorioretinopathy" and The Birdshot Uveitis Society (BUS) has helped me immensely to understand the disease and manage its effects.
Birdshot is very difficult to diagnose - often missed by opticians and general healh practitioners - and the drugs used to treat it have significant and unpleasant side effects which can seriously affect quality of life.
BUS is setting up a Biobank to collect samples from all of us birdshotters (currently estimated as less than 600 in the UK) so that these can be made easily available to researchers and medical drug companies. By doing this we hope to be able to determine the cause of the disease, help develop drugs to specifically target it, and improve diagnosis and treatment for future generations.
I know that you get asked to support many great charities, this one is very personal to me and there are so few of us we really do need your help! Anything you can give would be greatly appreciated, we need to raise 140,000 for the Biobank!
