After deciding on the Baxters 2010 Loch Ness Marathon there was one charity i really wanted to raise money for.....Alzheimer Scotland. I have now completed the Marathon and finished it an amazing time 3hr 30min 05sec, which I'm very pleased with being my first Marathon. This was an amazing weekend and now plan to do the Edinburgh Marathon in 2011.
Alzheimers is a condition which has recently affected my family. My grandmother suffered from Alzheimers and sadly passed away last year. Alzheimers is the progressive loss of power to the brain of which the causes are yet unknown. I have seen how families are put under imense strain when this condition affects their loved ones and how frightening and unsettling it can be for those suffering from this condition.
Alzheimers Scotland is there to support those affected, their carers and families. They provide vital services in the form of a help-line, website and local services all over Scotland which include day centres, home support, drop in centres, support groups and many more.
The work carried out by Alzheimer Scotland is mainly done by volunteers and just £50 can fund a day's respite care. I hope to complete the Marathon in just over 4 hours and raise a total of £1000 for this charity. Please show your support by donating as much or as little as you can afford.
Thank you
Stuart.
