Story
2 years ago a very good friend of mine (was actually best man at the wedding) lost his father to cancer, it happened very quickly and was obviously a huge blow to him.
Around about that time another very good friend’s (usher at his wedding) mother was undergoing a battle with cancer and after beating it twice sadly lost to the disease the third time round and died last year.
Since this time another very good friend (another best man outing) of mine has lost an Uncle to cancer which also happened very quickly.
My own father is now undergoing a battle with cancer and after having a bone marrow transplant and chemotherapy has been told that the disease has returned and that repeating the process is not really an option. He is currently making full use of Clan’s facilities as he must travel from Shetland to Aberdeen for 6 nights a month to take experimental drugs that they hope will slow the disease and give him more time on this earth.
Up until recently I did not realise how many people were realistically affected by cancer as the knock on effect of the above mentioned obviously stretched far to brothers, sisters, wives, husbands etc… and over the last 12 months we have all been talking about doing something to try and help.
So this is my attempt, I am going to walk the 96 miles of the West Highland Way in 4 days and then trek up Ben Nevis on the 5th, beginning on Saturday 29th June and finishing Wednesday 3rd July. If you know me, then you'll understand that this is probably the most exercise I'll have ever done in one sitting. I know people are hit up for charity all the time and I get as annoyed as the next person about it, but I really do believe this to be a worthwhile cause, if you disagree at least the laugh at the profile photo is worth a £1 :-D
