Story
Why am I doing it? Coz Charlie Condou asked me via Twitter, the other night. I love Charlie. We’ve been friends for YEARS. I have much respect for his work, on stage/screen and off it. He’s hosting, so I’ll get to hang out with him. That’s almost enough reason in itself.
I also fully support the Albert Kennedy Trust (look ‘em up, they’re great). Earlier this year, I hosted a pub quiz for city workers over in Canary Wharf to raise handbag for AKT. It was an honour and a pleasure.
Young LGBTs are still getting grief in school, at home and on the streets. They kill themselves, harm themselves and develop drug/alcohol problems 'cause idiots believe they are ‘sinners’ or ‘should be ashamed’. They need love and roof over their little gay heads.
Just Giving offers an option to do your thing for a loved one now dead. Just the one? Pu-leaase! I have so many lost ones that it would be unfair to honour just the one. So, off the top of my head- this is for all my departed friends and lovers;
Lee McQueen (Suicide, you fool! I miss you), Siobhan Grier (you’d have loved this, if you hadn’t drank yourself to death), Paul Falaschi (death by lipsuction, REALLY? You beautiful idiot), Jamie Knife (motorcycle accident on Mykonos, you were ALWAYS a dangerous driver), Greg ‘Rough Rider’ (AIDS- you coulda told me, I found out when I wrote your obit).
Oh, and this is also for my mum Bridget Cumiskey who never got to see her son grow up and dress like a woman. I’m sure you would have been proud.
So, for all those people and the others I haven’t mentioned coz I’m in a rush, this is for you, and the Albert Kennedy Trust and for all those who died of AIDS over the years who still don’t have a memorial in London- which is WHY I’m part of the LAMC (London AIDS Memorial Campaign), I’m running in heels and a wig for you.
