On 27th January, I lost the love of my life to lung cancer. Jane was 54, had never smoked a cigarette in her life, was always fit and healthy: A teacher; a dancer; a gardner; a mother and my best friend. Full of life and love. We'd been married just over half our lives.

I'm doing this adventure in her memory - revisiting places we went to and taking in others we dreamed of visiting but never quite made it. I want to raise as much money as I can in the process, to sponsor more research into beating this horrible disease.

I'm driving my little sports car right around the Baltic, taking in the North Cape - the most northerly point in Europe. I'm using it as a stimulus to get into cycling, taking my new Genesis Crois de Fer along for the ride and to add another dimension. It's 6000 miles - just me, the MX5 and the bike under the midnight sun.
