Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
So I’ve kinda accepted the challenge to run 1000 miles in a calendar year. After getting ‘the bug’ back for running, I plan to manage this through BMF sessions (normal, running and tabbing), Park Runs, random runs, in addition to training for and completing the Coventry Half Marathon on Sunday 18 March.
After some deliberation of whether to do this challenge for myself or charity, I have decided I wish to try and help a charity in the process of completing this challenge! I have chosen to support Men United.
Unfortunately, Cancer is far too common amongst us now. Although I have not been personally affected by the disease, it’s all too common, and know of close friends who have fought, and continue to fight the disease.
“Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men. It’s a huge issue that we can’t ignore because it has major implications for men, their families and society as a whole.
Currently, one man an hour dies from prostate cancer in the UK. That’s 10,900 men in a year. But if we ignore prostate cancer and do nothing, this number will rise to over 14,500 men a year by 2026. And by 2030, it’s predicted to be the most common cancer overall.
But you can change that. Your support could help us tame this terrible disease and cut future deaths dramatically in the next decade.
Our (Men United) bold new strategy – Ten years to tame prostate cancer – focuses on four priority areas:
Better diagnosis
Better treatment
Better prevention
Better support
Consulting with researchers, health professionals and men affected by prostate cancer, it's based on what we know now and what we can build on using this knowledge.”
