Story
"Coast to coast, city to city, cathedral to cathedral”, call it what you want. In June I’m running 69 miles – the length of Hadrian’s Wall – it’s gonna be EPIC.
Running 69 miles in one day - are you mad?!
Yes and no. It’s a long way to run in one go but I’m raising money for a good cause.
Why Link Leisure?
Link Leisure is a charity that supports children and adults with learning disabilities – mostly residing in Woking and Surrey Heath but also from surrounding boroughs – to access sports, social and recreational activities.
They do not have the high profile or immediate appeal of the larger charities nor the resources to promote the Charity. They do, however, do an incredible job with a small staff team and a fantastic group of dedicated volunteers. If you live in and around Woking and Camberley you will see people - who would otherwise not have the opportunity - leading socially inclusive lives as a direct result of Link Leisure’s work.
I have been fortunate enough to get to know some of the service users and the people who make it happen at this Charity - namely the staff and volunteers - and I have firsthand knowledge of the difference they make to the everyday lives of learning disabled people.
Where does my sponsorship go?
Link Leisure receives a certain amount of funding to provide school holiday schemes but there is a huge demand for weekend (or longer trips) by the service users and their families. Sponsorship monies raised on my ultra distance run will be set aside for these trips. So PLEASE dig deep and give whatever you can afford.
