Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

My name is Sizwe which means “the Nation”. I am a burns survivor. I was born in South Africa, but live in Britain now. I am 14 years old.

I was burned when my biological mother set me alight. I remain scarred on my scalp, the left side of my face, my arm and hand. I've had so many operations and will need more as I grow. I have come to terms with how I was hurt.

I have lots of friends from all over Africa. They're just like me; burn survivors who've been helped by the charity Children of Fire. The charity helps with operations, ensuring I go to school, get exercises to make my arm straighter, make squatter camps safer and lots of other important things. We're all like a big family, supporting each other when things are tough and enjoying a swim in the summer.

There are many other children who need help like I did. That's why I'm taking part in the Monopoly Moonwalk in September 2015 TO RAISE MONEY for them. It will also be really fun; travelling across London with volunteers, my sister Dorah, my mum Bronwen, and my friend and fellow burn survivor Perlucia. The charity started with Dorah, and many children came after her.

In 2014 and 2015 I had ear reconstruction surgery at Great Ormond Street Hospital with Dr Neil Bulstrode and his team. If you look at my profile pictures, you can see the before and after shots of my ear.

Please support me. Help me raise as much MONEY as I possibly can to help Children of Fire carry on the amazing work that it does.
