Story
Hi There
On Friday 20th May 2016 I will join 85 other riders to once again ride for the fantastic cause “Miles 4 Mel ‘3’”
I had never met Mel, but her story is so poignant that I felt compelled to support her husband and children in their quest to raise money to find a cure for the cancer that so cruely took Mel away from them 4 years ago. Mel had a complex cancer calledAdenoid Cystic Carcinoma. The funds will be given to The Royal Marsden's Molecular Research Centre to help them understand the genetic pathways of the disease to enable them to find 'blockers' in the future.
I hit the milestone of 50 this year; half a century of work, sport and family! I really want to set myself some memorable goals and I can think of no better way than to get on my bike, for the second year in a row, to demonstrate my support for this cause. Last year this massive challenge was epic; I met some amazing people (including Mel’s’ husband and children) and felt part of a truly amazing mission. This year I want to do it again - faster, fitter and to raise more money than ever before.
I will never forget the feeling I had last year when we cycled into Mel’s home town with hundreds of people lining the streets clapping and being greeted at the finish by Mel’s children. A proper lump in the throat and tear in the eye moment!
Just Giving will be my vehicle for logging all of your generous donations and support. Any amount is appreciated, but please double it before you press send...
Thank you for all your support
Cheers
Simon
