Ken's Story
I bet your wondering who's ken?
Well Ken is a father of six children (five boys & one girl) who over several years of battling with various ailments from stomach pains to being violently sick after meals; Ken was treated for a stomach ulcer. At the age of 56 Ken caught Pneumonia and was admitted to New Cross Hospital (Ken worked as a Porter at New Cross Hospital so was pleased that he was being pushed down the corridors for a change). After pulling through the Pneumonia, the Doctors ran some tests and found some irregularity in his blood. After further tests Ken heard the words that every one dreads to hear; he had Cancer. The Doctor explained to Ken that he had Bowel Cancer and needed an urgent operation to remove the tumour. Ken was admitted for the operation and Doctors removed the tumour, part of his bowel and his spleen, the operation was a success and Ken was put onto Chemo treatment every two weeks over 52 weeks, and take tablets every day to compensate for the loss of his spleen. It is now 2010 and thanks to the love of his family and support from friends and his employers Ken his in remission from his Cancer and enjoying life again and been back at work for over year has a Porter at New Cross Hospital. Ken is now 61 years old and just become a Great Grandfather to his Grand daughters baby girl Daisy May. Why tell you Ken’s Story? Well Ken is my Dad, and I am so proud of his determination and strength to get over the Cancer and he his joining me and family members and friends on the Hike up Ben Nevis to help Raise funds for Cancer Research Uk.
