Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

As some of  you already know, from October through to and into December of this year I am volunteering with GVI in their Mexico Marine Expedition. In this programe I will be helping with coral reef and fish monitoring on the world's second largest barrier reef as well as helpiing with community education and sustainable tourism development programs In addition, from the 26th to 28th of October I am participating in a three day, 92km biathlon from Pez Maya to Tulum (40 km of kayaking, 52 km of cycling).

The goal is to raise $1500 in funds for the GVI's Charitable Trust projects by kayaking and biking through the Sian Ka'an Biosphere Wilderness Reserve . The two projects the money will go toward are the Amigos de Sian Ka'an mapping programme in the reserve and the creation of a recycling centre in the Punta Allen Verde community.

Punta Allen Verde community members wish to create and build a recycling centre where their recyclable waste can be temporarily stored once separated. The people are already separating their waste and making compost. The funds raised will be used to buy recycling bins for the town and provide maintenance to the recycling center that is soon to be built. For more information, visit;

Amigos de Sian Ka’an is the first non-governmental, non-profit association formed in Quintana Roo.  It is an NGO that has been working for 25 years in different areas of conservation in the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve and the Yucatan Peninsula. Since 2006, with the support of many organizations and local fishermen, ASK have been conducting research dependent on funding on the Quintana Roo coast. Through the Mapping program GVI intend to further define the whole Sian Ka’an Reserve to influence environmental regulation in the area. For more information, visit;
