Story

The more money we raise the more teachers have their legs waxed!

Hi - I'm Silas. I am 10 years old. Last August, I was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumour. We called it BOB. I have had two major brain surgeries and have been undergoing radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Lots of doctors at lots of hospitals have been helping me. I have had so many needles stuck in me (my record is 12 in one day) and this week I am back in GOSH for a second leukapheresis - an operation where they extract my white blood cells - and the vascath they use really hurts.

I am currently undergoing an immunotherapy trial at Great Ormond Street Hospital. This trial involves doctors taking out my white blood cells and teaching them what my BOB looks like.. They then inject them back into to me to try and get my own body to fight the cancer. We really hope this is going to work and beat BOB but we won't know for some time.

I have a great team helping me at Great Ormond Street and all their work is funded by Charity. This is the only trial like this in the UK at the moment - without it I would have to try and get on a trial in the USA and be a long way from home and my brothers.

Much more research needs to be done on children's brain tumours. So to help raise money for my immunotherapy trial and others like it, I have persuaded several male members of staff at my school to have their legs waxed, including the headmaster!

For each £500.00 I raise, one member of staff will have their legs waxed on March 16th in front of all the children in the school - if I reach £2000.00 or more then my headmaster, Simon O'Malley will be on the waxing bed too and I will get to pull a waxing strip off his leg........

The fab teachers who have agreed to take part are:

Mr Longdon - My RS teacher

Mr Kearns - My English teacher (and Rugby coach)

Mr Cox - My Phys/Chem teacher

Please help me to reach and even exceed my target. Think how great it would be to get all four teachers waxed - my mum says they don't know what they have let themselves in for!

We have sorted it out with GOSH  that all money raised on my page will go directly into research for these immunotherapy trials and other trials like them and nowhere else. So you will be making a difference to me and children like me. Every little bit helps.

Thanks

Silas
