Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I first found out about The Childrens Aventure Farm Trust on twitter, having looked up their website, was amazed and moved at the facilities they provide for children and their families. Children who, given different circumstances could be mine or yours. My children (now grown) are healthy, and had as happy an upbringing that we were able to provide for them, including holidays and much fun and laughter.A fact for which I am eternally grateful.

Some children, and families through no fault of their own are not so lucky, and Childrens Adventure Farm is a haven that provides, a loving, caring fun filled enviroment, and a wealth of happy memories for terminally ill, disabled and disadvantaged children.

This is all reliant on being able to raise £800.000 funding to continue in 2010.....this is where I, and hopefully you come in .I am actually going to be trekking across The Sahara for 3days in November 2010 to help raise funds for this wonderful place......yes me......at my great age, and with one arthritic knee, another well on the way, asthma, and hot flushes, think I should be considering the knackers yard instead LOL.

This for me will be the challenge of a lifetime, one I am looking forward to, but know will push me to my limits...there`s snakes, lizzards, scorpions, spiders, and all manner of beasties out there, not to mention the camels....EEK!!

Please help by sponsoring me in my endeavours to raise as much money as possible for this wonderful cause....come on this journey with me,I will provide updates on my training, photographs and share the fun of the Trek....all I need is to reach my target, to be able to take part in this * mid-life crisis*.......I mean exciting adventure.

23rd March and training is well underway now, I`m already able to walk 18-20miles at a stretch, so am now trying to get more of an idea of walking through deep shifting sands, so I took myself off to Formby(don`t laugh) at the weekend ,not exactly Saharan weather, and not a camel in sight but some heavy duty deep sand, and high(ish) Dunes to climb up.Walked through to Ainsdale across as many dunes as I could, walking up is a bit like being on a perpetual motion step machine.......one step up, and your foot slides back down lower than where it started from, and it felt as if I`d climbed three times the height.Including some beach sand walking after Ainsdale to Southport, I probably walked 11 miles in all,but oh how it felt like so much more!!

Two days later I can still feel the muscles in my thighs, calfs, and dare I say  bottom, protesting strongly so I`ve definitely worked a few long discarded ones ;) My aim is to become a finely honed, lean mean Saharan strutting work of feminine perfection..........or maybe just a creaking gate, time will tell.

I`ve also posted a few photographs of my recent vist to CAFT, which is one of the most inspiring places I`ve ever been. The staff were warm and welcoming, the lunch was delicious, and the children visiting that day (and me) had great fun too.

Thanking you all in anticipation  of helping me reach my target with your donations/sponsorship whoever you may be, and to the very generous people who have already helped me on my way to target.

Love`n`hugs Sheila xXx
