I am very proud to be part of a team of 54 patients, doctors and nurses with family and friends support, who are all cycling from London to Paris in 24 hours. I have never done anything like this before, so cycling this 300km route is a big challenge for myself!

PLANETS is an amazing charity dedicated to defeating cancer of the Pancreas Liver And NeuroEndocrine Tumours (NETs). In 2016 one of PLANETS aims is to bring IORT (Intra-Operative Radiotherapy) to Southampton Hospital, enabling patients to receive radiotherapy during their operation to treat cancers that cannot be completely removed or to 'zap' areas that the cancer may come back in. This will be the first machine in the UK. 

Two very close friends of mine have been affected by cancer. Azmin was diagnosed last year with pancreatic cancer and went through a long 8 hour life saving operation, carried out by a member of the PLANETS cycle team followed by months of chemotherapy. Joanne was diagnosed 5 years ago with NETs and also went through a life saving operation and now has to have continual injections to slow the growth of these tumours. 

The dedication and care provided by the surgeons and nurses was second to none and has saved my friends lives and made me realise how important this level of care is. I feel very humbled to be cycling along with some of the patients and these wonderful surgeons and nurses.
