Story
On the 3rd March 2012, my beautiful husband Lee, committed suicide in our home in Tenby.
We had the most amazing life.
We met in the Dominican Republic Nov 2009 and it was love at first sight. He lived in Nottingham with his mum and dad, and brother and sister down the road. I lived in Tenby. Our love quickly blossomed and we had a long distance relationship until May 2010 when he moved to Tenby for us to start a new life together. He proposed on the 20th September of 2010 and we got married on July 23rd 2011 at St. Mary’s Church followed by the Giltar Hotel, Tenby. We truly had a fantastic life. Looking after dogs and walking everyday on the beach. Always smiling and laughing. A real life love story.
When Lee was growing up in Warsop he was your typical lad, always surrounded by his mates and enjoying life.
Lee served in the army from 2004-2007 in Helmand Province, Afghanistan and lost his closest friend to enemy fire. When Lee came back to his bed from his duties, his friends’ bed was rolled up, there was an empty space and the stags flag they shared had gone. His closest friend was gone and he had to get on with it. Lee received no help whilst in the army or when he left. He was told in the army pain is just weakness leaving the body and you are taught to be hard and emotionless.
Lee was never diagnosed with PTSD but we believe he suffered from it. Lee never received no help when he left the army or throughout his service.
Lee was fun, bubbly and was more than I could have ever wished for. It was an honour to have known him and be his wife. He had the most amazing family and friends who loved and adored him.
I feel completely lost without my husband, my lover, my best friend and my soul mate.
The most important issue to me is to raise as much awareness as possible about this life changing illness that affects veterans, whether still in active duty, retired or discharged as PTSD affect people at different times in their life and it is extremely important for friends and family to know and recognise the signs and help beat the stigma associated with this life changing illness. I wouldn't ever want anyone else to ever feel this pain so please, help fight this!!
A poem for my beautiful husband,
To my beautiful baby
When I met you, it was love at first sight,
And straight away, you made my life bright.
Your smile and cuddles, the way you made me feel,
I couldn’t believe my luck or that it was even real.
We even kicked Adam out of your room,
But you know it was worth it, don’t you boom boom?
And then our love blossomed, we were meant for each other,
You became my best friend, my soul mate, my life and my lover.
You moved down to Tenby and we became one,
Completely inseparable, it was like we’d always done.
You asked me to marry you, I didn’t think twice,
I remember saying ‘is it for real?’ you said I’d changed your life.
So 10 months later, in beautiful July,
We got married and lit up the sky.
We showed everyone what love was about,
We danced, laughed and kissed, there was no doubt.
You’ve given me the most incredible life,
And I’m so proud to be called your wife.
When I said my vows, I meant it from the heart,
And because of that lee, we will never be apart.
I will always cherish every moment had with you,
Our walks on the beach to playing footsie too.
Every moment was exciting and new,
You are incredible baby and this is for you.
I love you babe with all my heart,
And even though right now we are apart.
We will meet again, wherever it may be,
And I’ll still be your wife and you’ll still be my Lee.
So sleep well my baby, rest your beautiful head,
You might be gone but your memories aren’t dead.
They will live on forever, in every one of us,
How amazing you are baby, I promise, our trust.
Love you baby always and forever xxxx
