I am raising money for SOAR Youth Projects, which helps children with
additional/special needs. My daughter Alix, who has severe learning
difficulties and communication problems, benefits from attending SOAR during the
school holidays. It is fantastic to see children that can benefit from
supervised activities that can bring them enjoyment and put a smile on their
faces.
As I had enjoyed taking part last year in the Monster Challenge as a team,
I have decided to take the challenge on as an Iron Monster competitor and try
and raise money for SOAR. This is a 120km duathlon round Loch Ness, with the
event starting in Inverness and follows the great Glen Way along the north side
of Loch Ness to Fort Augustus, then back to Inverness along the road on the
other side of Loch Ness.
The monster challenge is usually done in teams of 4, comprising of 8
stages, with each team member taking on a run stage and a cycle stage, however,
this event is also open to individuals (mad like myself) who would like to do it
solo. I will have to complete a 43.4km run, incorporating hills, then an
off road section of 21.6km on a bike (with hills), and a 55.2km bike ride on the
road (with an even bigger hill from Fort Augustus).
As a bit of fun, it would be good if people could guess my time to complete
the event, you could add your time to the comments when you donate. I can
say that the fastest time last year was 7hrs 21mins 17secs and the slowest was
11hrs 48mins 48secs. Hopefully, we may be able to offer a prize to the
closest time guessed.
I would be delighted if you could spare anything and help this local
charity.
