Story
We are Heather and Keith Parkinson (HP Sauce & KP Nuts) and this will be our third Mac4x4 Challenge.
The Mac4x4 (www.mac4x4.co.uk) is a huge driving and navigation exercise both on and off road. Three days in a Land Rover, navigating round the country using maps trying to complete the various challenges and collecting points as accurately as possibe. We will be doing the challenge in our white Land Rover 110 sleeping in the roof tent.
Our first Mac 4x4 outing in 2008 went well and we were 11th overall and 3rd in the night navigation. 2011 was a special event to celebrate 100 years of Macmillan Cancer Support and 10 years of Mac4x4. The 2011 event was 4 days long and covered England, Wales and Eire (north of Galway). After 4 intense days we were still speaking to each other and were 7th overall out of 80 teams taking part. For 2012 we are determined to do better than that and have a plan to take less photos and for Heather to use her new varifocal glasses!! Its a tough challenge but worth it in order to raise money for this good cause.
During 2011 we were tracked throughout the whole event by one of our sponsors, Skytag (www.skytag-gps.co.uk). We will be continually tracked again in 2012.
We both believe that Macmillan is a tremendous cause, and needs every penny that supporters can raise. Both of us have had close family members with terminal cancer needing the care offered by Macmillan and other similar organisations. All donations go to Macmillan - the cost of entry, equipment, fuel and food is covered by us. The challenge last year raised in excess of £120,000 and since the challenge began it has raised more than £760,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support.
