Story
Along with other Liverpool Medical Students, I am hiking up Snowdon with full-term pregnancy bumps strapped to our stomachs to raised money for Freedom From Fistula Foundation.
This charity works to help women across Africa have a safe pregnancy. They have so far helped 120,000 women & children, but there are still more people who they can help.
An obstetric fistula occurs during an obstructed labour when emergency care is unavailable. Women suffering from obstructed labour often struggle until the baby dies. During this agonising process, loss of circulation causes tissue to die, leaving large gaps between the birth canal and bladder or rectum, causing incontinence. Most women and girls suffering with obstetric fistula are ostracised by their families and communities as they smell and are constantly wet, leaving them to live as outcasts. Fistula is all but eradicated in the developed world, so why can’t we help to eradicate it in Africa?
Just £1000 pays for life changing fistula care including surgery, rehabilitation and community reintegration
£200 pays for a solar station providing a patient with a sustainable income for her family
£100 pays towards a safe delivery for mother and baby
£50 pays for a patient to be educated in numeracy and literacy during their stay
£2 pays for a day's meals for a patient. We feed each patient 3 nutritious, healthy and balanced meals each day to help build their strength.
100% of every donation you make goes directly to helping those in need. All administration costs are met entirely by the founder.
Thank you so much for supporting me in helping this amazing charity xxx
