Story
It has been 4 years since I last did anything with my hair so I think it is time for a change. At present from the start of my hair line to the longest point my hair is over 16” long. I want to go for a short cut (something I’ve never had done before) but what to do with all that cut off hair….. I could sell it making £5 per once but I’d rather do something more meaningful like donate it to a charity. The Little Princess Trust is the perfect one that I’ve found. They provide FREE wigs to children who are suffering the effects of cancer treatments. It’s hard to be a kid in a modern world where image is everything; it’s harder when you have an illness such as cancer and you end up losing your hair, a piece of your identity for most kids. These wigs help to give the kids a bit of confidence in themselves allowing them to feel normal in an otherwise un-normal situation. Being happy and staying positive will always help on the road to recovery.
So I plan to cut my hair short and donate the trimmings to the Little Princess
Trust. My hair donation will then be sent to a wig maker and will be returned
to the trust for free, to then be handed to a child in need. However due to the
high demand on the trust for these free wigs there just aren’t enough hair donations
for them to obtain lots of free wigs, so they still need to purchase some. On
average the wigs cost the trust £350. This is due the nature of good quality
wigs for small heads. Alongside my own hair I aim to raise £350 to send with it
so that they may get two wigs from one event.
My hair is being cut free of charge by Debbie Hutter a self-employed
hairdresser and barber of Bridgwater, Somerset.
We cannot cure cancer overnight but we can make life a little
bit more comfortable for those children that have to deal with it. So get out
your wallets and start donating to this lovely little charity.
