In June 2015 our lives were changed forever when Bill died of cancer. The support we received from the Wisdom hospice and Macmillan financial team was amazing and to date we have raised over £1700 for the hospice and £500 for Macmillan as a small token of our thanks.

This year we want to support two other charities; Cancer Research, so that one day people like Bill can be diagnosed earlier leading to higher survival rates, and also WAY, which stands for Widowed And Young. WAY provides support for people under the age of 50 whose partners have died; they provide a 24 hour support line, an amazing online support community, and regional groups who have regular meet-ups. Sometimes for a meal, a zoo visit or, like next month, a dinner and dance at the Crown Plaza in Reading. Joanne and many people like her have found friendships and support from people who "get it", whom they could only have met through WAY. Joanne calls this group her 'silver lining'.
