In February 1991 my happy healthy little boy developed type 1 Diabetes at the age of just 2. I remember the day I was told vividly. The feeling of utter devastation.
But I resolved to do all I could to understand the condition and ensure he was well cared for until it was time for him to care for himself. It was a very bumpy ride with many tears and drama along the way.
But I'm proud to say he's been able to do many things some said he would not. He's fit, he's active and he's well travelled. He's a Master of Science!
And a few months ago he was appointed as the Improving Care Manager SW region for Diabetes UK. I could burst with pride!!
He asked me to run the Bath Half for the charity and of course I agreed. He's also running, something that will require that extra bit of focus to manage his blood sugars!!
Please help me to raise my target and help this wonderful charity that has done so much for children like Matt.
