Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

This is our story

The rider: middle aged lady with some wear and tear. Bought up on a farm in Lincolnshire and riding was as natural then as walking. Nothing made me nervous and I belted around on my pony like a loon. Fast forward many years and after a couple of nasty riding accidents, I now suffer from the 'what if' syndrome! This has made me anxious and nervous and horses know that. Not a good start!

The horse: Zebedee came into our lives in March this year. On paper he was a confidence giving schoolmaster and after trying him he arrived at the yard. What we actually had was an ex dressage horse with poor shoeing, bad teeth and what became rapidly clear some problems with his hind legs. After some investigation he had clearly had some major trauma at some point to his off hind so his other hind was over compensating and weak. So farrier, dentist and several visits from the lovely Helen Cherry and we are making progress. We have even started to do a couple of little jumps. The feet have left the ground! Oh, I forgot to add that my new wobbleberry partner is a spook monster which doesn't help my nerves. Thank goodness for sticky bum jodphurs!!

So not what you would call an eventing match made in heaven! However that is the point of the challenge. To be inpired to push yourself to achieve what you believe to be out of reach in aid of a very worthy cause.

The support group: no team can be a success without the help of a great cheerleading team so a big thank you to my wonderful husband David who ferries us around, puts poles out and sets grids up. Oh and puts up with Zebs very grumpy stable face. Thank you to Richard and Louise at Whitfield Farm equestran where I keep him and who are always willing to offer help and advice. Richard is also my wobbleberry trainer and although he is really loud and shouts at me he knows just how far to push us within my nerve limit and that means we are making some progress. I have been told we have to venture out to our first ever dressage event soon. Yikes! Thank you to Sophie Garner who feeds him and makes sure his every day needs are met and last but by no means least, Helen Cherry, who will continue to help me get Zeb fully functioning and ready for the challenge ahead. There is also a fantastic Wobbleberry support group and The Wimpy Eventer also spurs me on with her antics.

So that's it. I shall keep you posted on progress and I hope we don't part company at any point. Stop that! No more 'what ifs' allowed!!

Thank you for reading this far and for donating to this very worthy cause. Love Sara & Zeb xx
