My name is Sam Homer and I'm part of a group of 35 architecture students from the University of Nottingham that are heading to South Africa in Easter 2013, to build the second stage of a nursery school in the village of Calais. Two years ago a similar team of architects completed the first phase of the nursery, which has transformed the lives of the young children of the village.
But the project isn't finished. We are going to design a much needed extra classroom, kitchen and office. We're also going to organise, manage and build this project ourselves. Each student has to raise money in order to supply the building materials, and we will cover our own travel costs so any donations will go directly into the project.
We will be carrying out various fundraisers, as individuals and as a group. We would be extremely thankful of any donations and any support you are willing to provide us with. We are also looking for any possible sponsors to help us make the target, and raise awareness of the project.
Our life-changing research can fight diseases, tackle global challenges and change society. At Nottingham, students from all backgrounds can achieve extraordinary things, in and out of the classroom. But talent needs a catalyst. You can shape the future and help make the incredible happen, every day
