Hi everyone!
As you may or may not know, there is currently an emergency crisis in East Africa affecting millions of people. So, this year I have decided to hike up Cadair Idris to raise money, in particular, for the famine in Somalia.
Over 6 million people are in urgent need of food assistance and nearly 1 in 7 children die before the age of 5. The failure of of successive rainy seasons across the Horn of Africa has led to severe water and food shortages, while the long-standing Somali conflict continues to hamper access to populations in need.
The prolonged drought has been devastating for vulnerable communities, many of which never fully recovered from the 2011–12 famine. They also suffer from the longstanding conflict and a lack of basic services. With no foreseeable end in sight, these communities will most likely continue to rely on humanitarian assistance through 2019 and into 2019.
However, this is where you guys can get involved and help make a difference. I urge you all to donate whatever you are able to- no amount is too small ! Through our collective efforts and intentions, we can change a situation that has left 1.2 million Somali children in a state of severe malnutrition.
