Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Some people run marathons, others sit in a bath of custard, still others shave their heads, but we are all united by the objective of raising money for charity.
So what am I doing? I'm riding around most of the
on my ageing BMW Motorcycle with a group of like minded friends to raise money
for Spinal Research.
Keep up to date with our progress via our Blog: http://roundbritainride.blogspot.com/2010/06/round-britain-ride-for-spinal-research.html
Every year, 800 people in the
suffer paralysis from spine injury - from things like road accidents, horse
riding, sports injuries or even accidents in the home. Spinal Research is
the 's
leading funder of research into techniques to overcome spinal column injury,
and restore mobility. (see link: http://www.itv.com/anglia/crash-victim-walks-again46129/ )
At the same time, we are promoting advanced rider training, which aims to reduce
the number of spinal injuries resulting from motorcycle accidents. As
many of you who know me will be aware, I am an observer with the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM), and give
around 200 hours per year of my time to train people to be better, safer
riders. The Kent Advanced Motorcyclists Group (KAMG), of which I am a member, was founded 30 years ago and was
the first such group within the IAM in the . There are now nearly 100 such groups around
the country. To celebrate our 30th anniversary we are riding around the England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales, linking up with representatives of these 100 groups. The run
will take a week, starting at Brands Hatch on Saturday 12th June, and returning
to Brands Hatch the following Saturday, around 2500 miles later.
So I'm asking if you would be prepared to sponsor me, to make a donation to Spinal Research. 1 penny per mile would work out at £25.00. I am paying all of my own costs for fuel and accommodation etc, so your donation will go direct to the charity
· £20 could help to pay for lab costs – making sure vital research that could transform lives doesn’t stop
· £50 could help to support Spinal Research's PhD students – the best new talent in the field of Spinal Column Injury repair
· £100 could help towards Spinal Research's Translational Initiative projects – bringing closer the day when paralysis is beaten
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
So please dig deep and donate now.
