Story
I'm trying to raise as much money as possible for Marie Curie Cancer Care. They provided the nurses who were there to care for my Grandad, in the final days before his death from oesophageal cancer.
I want to raise money to help fund care like this for even more cancer patients. So I'm taking part in an sponsored hitch-hike challenge through my university's RAG (Raising and Giving) society.
Beginning at 9am on Monday 31st March 2014, myself and my friend Gio will be attempting to get as far away from Leeds as possible, in 36 hours, all without spending any money.
We'll be relying on our powers of persuasion, and the kindness of strangers to help us out with free bus, train and plane tickets, and the odd lift as well (don't worry, we'll keep in touch to let you know that we're safe).
My Grandad was always really interested to hear about my travels to foreign countries, so I like to think that this sort of challenge is something he'd be excited to see me doing. It feels like a really nice way to raise money in his memory.
I'm asking for sponsorship donations in the run up to the challenge.. Even if it's just a tiny amount, everything adds up, so I'd be really grateful for anything that you can give.
It would also be really exciting if you wanted to pledge a certain amount per countries visited/miles travelled... it would be a fantastic incentive for us to get as far away from Leeds as possible. You can continue donating following the hitch, so if you're impressed by our progress, or just want to pity a poor performance (hopefully not), please do!
