Story

What am I doing?

I am cycling, as part of a group of 30 people, the length, width and height of Wales whilst taking part in Rod's Money for Myeloma Bike Ride, a long distance cycle event running from Chepstow to Chester. I will be cycling a total of 220 miles with a total height gain of 4,300 meters in only 3 days

Why am I doing this?

To contribute to  "Rod's Money for Myeloma" set up by my uncle, Rod Alexander, to raise money for Myeloma UK. A charity that have given him lots of support since he was diagnosed with this horrible disease.

This is Rod's story in his own words:

"In July 2013 my comfortable life was shattered when I was diagnosed with Myeloma, a rare, aggressive and incurable cancer of the bone marrow. In simple terms for me, that means eleven cracked vertebrae, damaged ribs and a compromised immune system. I had seven months of Chemotherapy with the Countess of Chester followed by a stem cell transplant at the Christie in Manchester. I am now six months post transplant and so far doing well although the disease always comes back."

With one study estimating that 97% of people have never heard of myeloma, Rod is keen to increase its profile and warn people about the importance of early diagnosis.
