STOP PRESS! New for Ward 40
Aude and Lynne are swimming 3.8km, cycling 180km and running 42km (hopefully without stopping!) to help ward 40 raise much needed funds! Please dig deep!
Aberdeen Royal Infirmary (ARI) are in desperate need of Brain Surgery equipment for the high dependency Neurosurgery ward 'Ward 40'.
With removal of deep tumors on the brain there are very high risks of stroke or paralysis. The patients (often children) have to have an incision made across their head and a 'trap door' created at the front of their head (this leaves major scarring). The brain is lifted out of the way for the tumor to be removed. It is a highly complex, dangerous operation with recovery time lasting weeks. With modern endoscopic equipment, surgery can be done 'same day' with no incisions or scars and with much less risk of paralysis. Recovery can be within 48 hours. Without labouring the point, childrens sight has been restored and lives saved using endoscopic equipment. ARI have only been able to do 40 of these operations because they have to borrow this equipment.
The equipment they need costs around £100,000.00 and we are going to complete events until they have raised this money and have the equipment they so desperately need.
Please, please help Ward 40 by giving as generously as you can! (Or even better raise some money yourselves towards this great cause! Dye your hair, stop smoking, anything you like!!)
