Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On 29th August, I cycled from Land's End in Cornwall to John O'Groats in N Scotland following a route covering 978 miles over 10 days. I spent over 100 hours in the saddle, climbed over 65,000 feet and didn't walk a single hill.
I did this in memory of my aunt, Sheila Holdsworth who died from Leukaemia in 2012. She was an wonderful person and somehow taking on this daunting challenge seems a good way to remember her extraordinary life.
This little road trip was a fairly terrifying prospect for me since the most i'd ever done before was a few Coast-to-Coast routes. Cycling for 100 miles plus for 10 days in a row was difficult and hurt a great deal! The key to success was doing the ca. 2000 miles of training rides carried out locally with friends or on my own in the preceding months. Make no mistake - doing this challenge has taken determination and real effort on my part: IT WAS NOT EASY. The terrible weather at the end made it still more challenging - but what a fantastic experience!
I rode with a group of folk from across a UK and we had a great time and i'd like to thank them all for their good company and support. Likewise, the support team from Tour de Force and Marie Curie were also excellent. A truly memorable experience which will stay for me for ever.
Please support me and the Marie Curie Cancer Care organisation and the wonderful help that they offer those coping with cancer and their families. For those of you from the UK, please don't forget to tick the Gift Aid box!
