Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

To sum up my story as briefly as I can for those who don’t know, I was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease in 2019 at the age of 34. It came about 8weeks after I had emergency surgery in the April to remove parts of damaged bowel and as you can imagine came as a bit of a shock. Fast forward nearly three years later, which contained many bouts of steroids, three different Crohn’s medications a temporary Stoma and two further surgeries, I am now hopeful that this is my condition under control. I am looking forward to getting parts of my life back that have been on hold for that time, everything from running around with my son & dog, playing sports to resuming my role as a whole time Firefighter. Unfortunately there are many people like this, many that have a worse time of it and of all ages!

So my fundraising will start by taking part in a 66mile cycle around Loch Ness. ‘Etape Loch Ness’ will be a closed road event on Sunday the 24th April. Which, to the very day, will be 3years on since I woke up from my life saving surgery. Seems like it was meant to be haha. I know I have done greater distances in the past but none of which after illness. So like I said, this is just the start!

The reason I am raising money is to help fund Crohn’s and Colitis UK, an organisation that helps support many people like myself and are a driving force to find better treatments and a cure for these conditions. I realise times are tough for us all but if you could part with anything no matter how little it would be greatly appreciated or if this isn’t possible even if you could help spread awareness of this then that would also be just as helpful.

Many thanks,

Robert x
