On September 24th I will travel to the West Bank in Palestine to take part in a 250kilometre cycle to raise money for MAP. My target is £2,500.00+, which will go directly to funding of medical care in the West Bank, Gaza and Palestinian refugee camps in the surrounding countries. All expenses i.e. flights, food and accommodation are covered personally by myself .

Our group of 30 will ride for 6 days in the sweltering Levant heat, through rural, hilly and desert landscapes, as well as some of the worlds most important historical and religious sights. Although the distance is not extreme, the conditions and metres climbed will make this quite a challenging expedition at the end of the Palestinian summer. 

MAP delivers health and medical care to Palestinians affected by conflict, occupation and displacement. Today, MAP is able to reach the most vulnerable and ensure they receive the best healthcare available in difficult conditions.

Cycle Palestine is a challenge event for experienced cyclists. We are required to be both fit for the ride and to raise a minimum sponsorship of £2,500 which will support MAP projects providing medical aid to Palestinians living under occupation and as refugees.

We ride through ancient trade routes and historical landmarks and witness the challenges Palestinian communities face living under occupation.

Itinerary:

Day 1: Jenin to Nablus

Day 2: Nablus to Taybeh (Jordan Valley)

Day 3: Taybeh to Jericho (Dead Sea; 400m below sea level)

Day 4: Jericho to Bethleham (uphill hike though desert; Separation Wall)

Day 5: Bethlehem to Hebron (occupied Old City)

Day 6: Hebron to Jerusalem (Separation Wall; finish at Jaffa Gate, old city)

MAP has partnered with Siraj Centre, a local non-profit tour group based in Bethlehem who specialise in treks and rides in Palestine. Their local knowledge, experience and expertise will ensure that Cycle Palestine will be a memorable experience for everyone.

They will have expert guides on hand, with support vehicles to carry everything that’s needed for the ride. In case of breakdowns there will be equipped mechanics on hand to help out. The local team are well trained and prepared for any emergency or disruption to the ride. Safety is the major priority therefore helmets and high visibility vests must be worn at all times.
