Story
On 15th September I will attempt to cycle from Leeds to London, approximately 250 miles in under 24 hours.
I am part of the 2 Wheels 1 Life cycling group, which was started following two terrible motorcycle accidents left two people left fighting for their lives.
The first was in 2013; My friend Keiron Gavaghan was motorcycling near Ripon when an engine failure caused his bike to leak oil and catch fire. Keiron ended up in a heap at the side of the road with 14 broken bones, a punctured and collapsed lung and a damaged liver.
The second serious accident happened on Easter weekend 2017. Alan Brigg was riding his motorbike and was hit head on by a vehicle. He was left with many broken bones including his pelvis, but much more worrying was the brain trauma.
In both cases, the Air Ambulances were dispatched and it is thanks to their excellent work that both Alan and Keiron are here today.
Following both of these incidents, we were inspired to do something gruelling to raise money and give back to the teams that saved the lives of our friends.
Most of the people in the 2 Wheels gang prefer an engine with their two wheels, and none of us are pro cyclists. The furthest I'd ever cycled before training for this ride was 40 miles!
The Air Ambulance Services are entirely funded by charitable donations, and considering they attend roughly 20,000 incidents per year - 8,000 of which are road traffic accidents - we wanted to give a fair chunk of money to them.
Any donations would be gratefully received - help make the saddle sore worth it!
