Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page where I'll be taking part in Informa's 3km fun run on 5th June to raise money for World Cancer Research Fund.
In 2012, my sister Suzanne, started to have bad stomach pains and other ailments. The doctors refused to believe she had bowel cancer because she was too young, however in November 2012 she was rushed to A&E where a cancerous tumor was removed, and her fight to get better began.
Over the next 18 or so months, she spent her time bravely fighting this disease, spending lots of time at the Royal Marsden for regular bouts of chemo and treatment.
Despite her positive outlook, in February 2014 we found out the cancer was too aggressive and she had a matter of weeks left.
In her final weeks, we celebrated her 29th birthday with family and friends, and prepared to say good bye. In her final weeks, she was exceptionally cared for by the St Catherine Hospice in Crawley.
She left us on Tuesday 18 March, gone but never forgotten.
I'm running to not only remember her life, but also to help raise awareness of bowel cancer and contribute to new cancer research which can lead to early diagnosis and more effective treatment. Bowel cancer is the second biggest cancer killer in the UK...but if diagnosed at an early stage it's very treatable.
If I raise over £150 I'll get an extra day's holiday from my employer, Informa, which I will use to volunteer for one of the charities mentioned above.
