Story
In 2009, on my birthday, my amazing wife had surgery to 'give birth' to our first daughter- she was 20+1 weeks pregnant and our daughter was not alive.
Early in the pregnancy, we had been told that our child was not likely to survive the pregnancy, due to an abnormality on the scan, but we went ahead anyway, and at a routine follow up scan, we receieved the devastating news that no parent-to-be should ever have to hear; there was no heartbeat present. The following day, My wife opted for surgery to remove our daughter-labour and birth would be too traumatic for her.
We then accidentally came across Mel Scott on Facebook- she was working with families suffering from Baby Loss, and she was amazing. She gave us lots of support and information and has remained a very trusted family friend ever since, supporting us through a number of pregnancy losses as well as the pregnancies of Our Rainbow Babies (Baby born after pregnancy loss).
Mel even attended hospital with us during a cancer scare during my Wifes last pregnancy, where we were told we may have to give birth early. (thankfully everything was OK and our son arrived only a few days before his due date!)
Thanks to Mel and Towards Tomorrow Together, we were able to face what had happened, and get the help and support earlier in future pregnancies, including ''reassurance scans'' to double check on baby etc.
