Story
Well I could just sit and watch my hair migrate from the top of my head to inside my ears, or I could run the London Marathon again. Bearing in mind the suffering (mainly other people's) last time I ran, it was a tough choice. The real reason I am doing it is to help Sonny Anderson, the son of our Creative Director here at Thirty Three. He is an incredibly brave boy, here is his story.
"Sonny was diagnosed with cancer in August 2009 and after the best part of a year in Great Ormond Street Hospital undergoing unsuccessful chemotherapy treatment, the decision was made for him to undertake a Bone Marrow Transplant. After discovering the immediate family weren't a match, the Anthony Nolan Trust began a worldwide search and found the only suitable donor was a 29 year old in America.
Three months in isolation, a short stay in intensive care, and a further couple of months in hospital and Sonny began to slowly recover. Unfortunately, despite the huge undertaking of the transplant, the cancer has returned and once again the Anthony Nolan Trust have organised another batch of life saving cells.
As of today (just after his 11th birthday) Sonny is about to undertake his third round of Donor treatment as the disease has once again returned. His situation is precarious at best, but at least he still has a chance. For every child who finds a donor, another does not.
Quite simply, the more people on the register, the more lives that are saved. I hope you can give your time and money and perhaps even consider joining the register so more kids like Sonny get a chance too.
Thankyou.
Gavin Anderson"
