I am Richard Anson and for the last few years I have been coaching and fulfilling the role of Youth Development Officer at Exhall and Wixford Cricket Club, in the CWB picture you can just make me out (in the cap) standing behind Michael Mcintyre (sorry Ben)! In the team picture I am the bloke on the left again in the cap and not the ugly one on the right (sorry Youngey).
Like all sportspeople you look to challenge yourself and ask what else can you do to make a difference, so when I saw that the Charity, Cricket Without Boundaries, was looking to recruit coaches for their Africa projects in 2012, I knew instinctively that it was something I wanted to do and some months later that desire is ever closer to turning into reality.
Cricket Without Boundaries does an incredible job recruiting volunteers to both coach cricket in Africa and at the same time deliver critical Aids Awareness messages throughout the continent. I have been privledged to be asked by the charity to join the CWB team who head out to Botswana to provide coaching programmes in Schools in Garabone and Francistown over a two week period, commencing on April 16th.
25% of the population of Botswana have HIV, this is the largest percentage per population of any African nation, so you can see for yourself that the need to increase the awareness of risk and infection is a critical message that needs to be delivered now and will ultimately save lives!
I have already paid for my flights and will cover my basic costs out in Botswana, but we also need to cover the costs of accomodation, internal travel, equipment and clothing, so any help you can provide, no matter how small, will make a difference to those that need it most!
