Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. We are undertaking this challenge as it has been a lifelong ambition for Rhona and something her Mother actively encouraged her to do. Unfortunately we did not get the opportunity to do this due to family commitments before Mary died earlier this year, and so we are now undertaking the journey in her memory.
Mum was unfortunate to be diagnosed with Parkinson's disease at an early age - 57 - and therefore entered the advanced stages of the disease whilst relatively young compared to other sufferers. She was a strong willed individual with a very distinct personality, and whilst she bore the illness in her own way, she did try to maintain a sense of humour and her independence throughout the period she was ill.
Mary was lucky enough to be able to live at home until the last 12 months of her life when care had to be sought. This was through the support of some great people and a luxury not every sufferer will have.
Parkinson's is a terrible and debilitating disease that takes away all independence from the sufferer, not only putting immense pressure on them but also on their carers and family. We would love to see advancement in treatment and a possible cure
We are funding the trip ourselves, so all donations made will go to the charity and not to fund our costs.
We would be so grateful to receive any donations big or small you may like to make to inspire us on our trip .
